Ahrefs pricing 2026 – Honest pricing breakdown including hidden costs and what to watch out for · March 2026 · 12 min read
Bottom Line
Ahrefs Lite at $108/month (annual) is the right entry point for freelancers and small agencies. Standard at $199/month is the agency plan – it adds historical data, more crawl credits, and higher usage limits. The $29 Starter plan is too limited for professional use but useful for evaluation. No free trial means you are committing blind – use the Starter plan first.

The Starter plan is Ahrefs’ response to growing pressure from lower-priced competitors. At $29/month it opens access to Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, and Site Audit with significant limitations: 500 credits per month, 1 project, and 1 user.
Starter is only useful for evaluation. The 500 monthly credits are consumed quickly – a single site audit of a 200-page site uses a significant portion of the monthly allowance. Do not run a professional practice on the Starter plan.
Ahrefs Lite – $108/Month (Annual)
Lite is the entry point for professional use. Five projects, 6 months of historical data, unlimited crawls, and 750 tracked keywords. This covers most freelancer and small agency workflows.
The significant limitation versus Standard: Lite only includes 6 months of historical data. For client reporting and demonstrating SEO progress over time, this is a meaningful gap. Standard provides up to 2 years of historical data.
Ahrefs Lite – $108/month (annual)
Best backlink index available. Keywords Explorer with click data. Content Explorer for link research. No credit-based overage charges on Lite and above.
See Ahrefs PricingAhrefs Standard – $199/Month (Annual)
Standard is the agency plan. It adds 2 years of historical data, 20 projects, Content Explorer access, and 2,000 tracked keywords. For agencies running link building campaigns alongside technical SEO, Standard unlocks the full Ahrefs toolkit.
The jump from Lite to Standard is $91/month annually – $1,092/year. Justify this upgrade when you are consistently hitting Lite’s project or historical data limits, or when Content Explorer becomes essential to your link building workflow.
Hidden Costs to Watch
- Lite and Starter use a credit system on certain tools – heavy usage can trigger additional charges
- Additional user seats are $80/month and only available on Advanced – Lite and Standard are single-user only
- No free trial means you must commit before fully evaluating the tool
- Annual billing is required for the discounted prices – monthly billing adds 17 to 20% to every plan
