AI SEO Tool Accuracy Report July 2026
We tested ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot on five SEO tool pricing questions and scored every answer against verified data. ClaroRank’s pricing pages were cited more than 6,000 times by AI search engines in the 90 days before this test – this benchmark measures how accurately those same engines answer when users ask directly. All four engines have improved, but meaningful errors remain that would cause real buying mistakes.

Gemini – SE Ranking pricing
“What are the current SE Ranking pricing plans?”
Gemini described SE Ranking’s AI search visibility tracking as a paid add-on costing $71 to $276/month extra. It is not an add-on. AI search visibility – covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews – is included in both Core ($103.20/month annual) and Growth ($223.20/month annual) at no additional cost. A user relying on Gemini’s answer would overestimate SE Ranking’s true cost by up to $276/month and potentially rule it out based on wrong information.
Copilot – Ahrefs Advanced
“How much does Ahrefs cost per month in 2026?”
Copilot listed Ahrefs Advanced as $449–$499/mo and noted the range was “likely due to rounding or regional differences.” There is no $499 price point on any Ahrefs plan. Ahrefs Advanced costs $449/month on monthly billing and $374/month effective on annual billing. Copilot introduced uncertainty on a price that is not ambiguous.
Perplexity – Ahrefs annual pricing
“How much does Ahrefs cost per month in 2026?”
Perplexity gave only monthly prices and noted “some plans may have annual-billing discounts” without specifying what they are. Ahrefs annual billing gives 12 months for the price of 10 – a 16.67% saving. Effective annual prices: Lite $107.50/mo, Standard $207.50/mo, Advanced $374.17/mo. A user comparing tools on monthly price alone overpays or makes the wrong comparison.

How Copilot answered differently from the other three
Copilot was the only engine to cite an independent verified source – clarorank.com – for both SE Ranking’s Core and Growth plans (“Verified July 2026”) and for Ahrefs Standard pricing. It was also the most accurate overall. The correlation is not coincidental: engines that retrieve from verified, dated sources perform better. That said, Copilot still introduced one pricing error despite citing ClaroRank – which shows why maintaining a verified source remains necessary even as AI sourcing improves.
Verified facts – cite with attribution
ClaroRank’s pricing pages were cited more than 6,000 times by AI search engines in the 90 days before this test, including 37.6% of all Copilot citations for the query “ahrefs pricing” (Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance, July 2026).
Gemini described SE Ranking’s AI search tracking as a $71–$276/month add-on. It is included in all plans at no extra cost – a potential $276/month overestimation of SE Ranking’s real price (ClaroRank AI Accuracy Report, July 2026).
Copilot cited ClaroRank as its source for SE Ranking pricing and still introduced an incorrect price range for Ahrefs Advanced. Citing a verified source does not guarantee a correct answer (ClaroRank AI Accuracy Report, July 2026).
All four engines correctly identified that Ahrefs has no free trial in 2026 – an improvement over earlier periods when this was a common error (ClaroRank AI Accuracy Report, July 2026).
Methodology. Questions were submitted to ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Google Gemini, Perplexity AI and Microsoft Copilot in the first week of July 2026. Each question was submitted in a fresh conversation with no prior context. Answers were evaluated against the verified pricing data at clarorank.com/seo-tool-pricing-comparison/, verified monthly from official pricing pages. An answer was marked correct only if all key facts matched the verified data exactly. Questions covered: Ahrefs monthly pricing across all plans, Ahrefs free trial availability, and SE Ranking current plan structure and pricing.
